Why ALL Zane's Zoo Pets Are One Price - 14.99
Yep! That's correct. ALL of Zane's Zoo pets are one price regardless of size. I love seeing the shocked look when someone is looking at a huge LIFE sized Sloth (yes, we had one last Christmas) and keeps asking 14.99? In this economic times, we are all use to sticker shock. Who would have thought a loaf of bread would be 5.00. So, why one price you may wonder.
Well, it goes back to my childhood and Momma. If you have read any of my previous blogs about my mom, you are familiar with how tight fisted my mom could be with a penny. She could make poor Lincoln slide right off it. Store brands filled our cupboards because they were cheaper than the National brands. Campbell's Chicken Noodle soup did not see our pantry shelves. My husband often jokes that my mom made "dirt drink" because it was cheap.
She wasn't that bad. But, instead of Kool-Aid we had Flavor Aid because it was a few cents cheaper. Her favorite sayings were: "That's too rich for my blood," "They'll not get rich off me," and "That's highway Robbery." Oh, the economics of Momma could almost be a college course. Bottom line if Momma had a choice of being able to save a few pennies bet your sweet bippy she would opt for the cheaper item. (Disclaimer - My husband swears I've inherited this gene from my mom. We call it the Carolyn gene).
Which leads me to why when making the decision on how to price Zane's Zoo I decided ONE price. That's it. No Discussion. The last thing I want to relive or experience is seeing a child fall in love with a Zane's Zoo pet and have someone tell him/her, "No, You need to pick one of these because its cheaper." Trust me I've been that child.
The purpose of Zane's Zoo is two-fold. One is to encourage reading with children. We stock new books for all reading ages and levels. The second is to help rescues devoted to saving animals. We have added sponsoring a shelter pet at the Walton County Animal Shelter. This simple project has brought a lot of joy for me. Zane's Zoo is for all ages. I love watching both adults and kids peruse the shelves of animals. The personal connection one pet can bring is heartwarming. It maybe because someone once had a dog that looks just like one of our pets.
How do you make money? Is a common question I'm asked when I explain - pick a pet and a book for 14.99. It doesn't matter the size. Well, the majority of Zane's pets are received by donation and estate sales. Yes, we save the stuffies ( a term I've since learned is often used instead of stuffed animal) and in turn the stuffies encourage reading and help save real animals.
So, this is why one price -14.99. Zane doesn't like tears on the faces of children.
Note: All books sold are brand new. We do not accept donations for books. Only Stuffies.
