Wood Jewel Knives

Having a husband who is a knife enthusiast helps. Especially when shopping for knives to put in the giftshop. Over the years, Bruce has both collected and made knives. A standard on all our trips to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is the Smokey Mountain Knife Works. The first time I encountered this place Bruce pretty much pulled me in with me dragging my heels and protesting my lack of enthusiasm for the visit.

The joke between us now is his saving grace that day was the animatronic display of a singing coon dog, banjo playing racoon, and other wilderness animals. He proclaims I was like a kid at Disney World watching the Country Bear Jamboree. From then on, I never complained about his wanting to visit this multilevel ginormous store flooded with testosterone.

Bruce can be a snob when it comes to collecting items. So, when he suggested I look at a collection of knives called Wood Jewel, I knew I would not be disappointed. These knives are made in the far north of Finland, north of the artic circle in the small town of Kolari, Finland. That checked a huge box for me....not made in....you get my drift.

The handles are made from Curly Birch and Reindeer Antler- both native to the area. The blades are high carbon steel. Each knife is accompanied with a hand sewed leather pouch often in the traditional Scandinavian style. When you see these knives in person you understand you are seeing more than craftsmanship and quality, but a piece of artwork. The knives balance perfectly in the palm of your hand. The handles fit snug in the hand without any bulk or roughness.

While collecting knives like anything can often times get a little pricy, these knives have a price point that doesn't break the wallet. These knives would make a great addition to any collection. But, they are also made to be functional and would be a compliment to any hunter's belt.
